Stacy Conde is an accomplished gallerist, curator, and arts advocate whose career spans decades of influence in the visual arts. Born in Miami during the city's transitional years between its mid-century decline and the cultural renaissance of the 1990s, Conde’s formative years were shaped by a landscape of boarded-up Art Deco hotels, grand yet desolate lobbies viewed through circular pool windows, and the untouched natural beauty of the Florida Keys. These early impressions cultivated her deep appreciation for aesthetics, narrative, and place—elements that continue to define her work.
At the age of 17, Conde began an extraordinary decade-long mentorship under the legendary fashion designer Barbara Hulanicki, founder of Biba London. Working alongside Hulanicki on projects ranging from the restoration of Art Deco hotels and nightclubs to styling music videos and costume design, Conde developed a refined creative vision. She continues to represent Hulanicki’s work through her gallery, Conde Contemporary, a testament to the lasting impact of their collaboration.
In 1998, Conde co-founded Goodman Conde Gallery with her husband, artist Andrés Conde, in Miami’s burgeoning Design District. This marked the beginning of her commitment to promoting art by living artists. A decade later, in 2012, she published The Red Speck, an allegorical work in the tradition of magical realism. The book engages the subconscious through esoteric symbols and ancient wisdom, offering a deeply transformative reading experience.
By 2013, Goodman Conde Gallery had evolved into Conde Contemporary, establishing itself as a premier space for representational contemporary art in Miami. In response to the pandemic in June of 2020, Conde relocated her family and the gallery to Natchez, Mississippi. The move was deeply personal—her grandmother, who raised her, was from nearby Gloster, where Conde had spent summers as a child and felt a profound sense of freedom and belonging. This relocation was more than a change of scenery; it was a return to heritage and an opportunity to build something lasting in the region.
Upon settling in Natchez, she and her husband purchased and restored a 200-year-old building on Main Street, transforming it into a gallery space with two artist residences above. In 2021, Conde expanded her vision by launching Allumer Natchez, a light-based art exhibition and festival that quickly became a highlight of the local cultural landscape. That same year, she founded Arts Danu, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to fostering creative exchange. Through its Teaching Artist Residency Program, Arts Danu brings world-class artists to Natchez for residencies ranging from two to six weeks, during which they provide free arts education to students in the community.
Today, Stacy Conde continues to curate exhibitions, advise collectors, and champion contemporary artists from her base in Natchez. Her work bridges geographical and artistic boundaries, reaffirming her belief in the power of art to transform spaces, minds, and communities.
